Ljubljana – Tirana

Durmitor mountain range,  Montenegro

Ljubljana - Tirana

This is one of the most beautiful and wild trips I have ever done.

  • Tracks and text are updated in 2024. Check out the GPS collection. You will find more details in the various descriptions.
In order to see metric units you need to be logged in to RideWithGPS.
  • In spite of several gravel sections (which only are challenging at the end of track #3), I did this route on 40mm tires and some 15 kilos of luggage.
  • I skipped Sarajevo because of unavoidable busy roads. I offer an easy option to go there by train in 1 hour from Konjic.
  • Campsites are rare in this area, especially after Croatia.I have often camped in the wild. Keep in mind that camping in the wild in Bosnia requires awareness of the danger of landmines. Check with locals and / or find fisher spots along rivers. You can also check an overview map or detailed maps.
  • Bigger towns do have rooms and hotels. Half of July – end of August may be busy since lots of diaspora visit their home country.

I am grateful for Tihomir Dakic, a cyclist from Banja Luka, who provided me the section in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The B&H section has been the base for the route + guide Dwars door de Balkan.
